Tottenham Hotspur vs Burnley
Tottenham missed out on their first trophy chance this season after choking the UEFA Super Cup away to PSG, who won the game via penalties last night. Thomas Frank’s men will have a few days to rest before they open their 2025-26 Premier League campaign against newly promoted side Burnley at home in North London.
The Spurs, who finished 17th in the English top-flight standings, have been through drastic changes this summer. After winning their first Europa League trophy, the club fired Ange Postecoglou and appointed Thomas Frank as his replacement. A few weeks later, club legend Son Heung-Min announced his departure to join LAFC in Major League Soccer.
On the other hand, Burnley are ecstatic to be back after a one-year absence, and the Clarets are keen to gain a measure of revenge over Spurs this Saturday.

Talking Points
Tottenham have yet to find the right mix up front
With Son Heung-Min no longer with the team, Tottenham’s frontline will look different this season, and head coach Thomas Frank must find the right combination. Fortunately for the former Brentford boss, he has a lot to work with.
Brennan Johnson led the Spurs in scoring with 11 league goals and three assists, and Dominic Solanke, Dejan Kulusevski, and Richarlison had 20 league goals and eight assists combined last term. Tottenham signed Mathys Tel to a permanent contract after registering two league goals during his short loan stint, and they also brought in Mohammed Kudus, who had five league goals and three assists for West Ham United.
Frank went with Richarlison and Kudus as their front two against PSG last night, and both players were eventually subbed out for Solanke and Tel. Wilson Odobert and Brennan Johnson didn’t even see the field against the Parisiens, which was an oversight on Frank’s part.
Tottenham will badly miss the playmaking of James Maddison, who tore his ACL against Newcastle United in Seoul during preseason. The Englishman had nine league goals and seven assists last season.
Burnley have a bloated squad

Burnley plan to stay in the Premier League longer this time, so they retooled their squad this summer. Some of their notable moves include acquiring Kyle Walker, Loum Tchaouna, Axel Tuanzebe, Quilindschy Hartman, Armando Broja, Martin Dubravka, and Lesley Ugochukwu.
The Clarets also signed Zian Flemming, Jaidon Anthony, and Marcus Edwards to permanent deals while bringing back Jacob Bruun Larsen from VfB Stuttgart. In return, they’ve let go of a raft of players, including CJ Egan-Riley and James Trafford, who went to Marseille and Manchester City, respectively.
The Clarets haven’t had much success this preseason, but manager Scott Parker learned a lot during their recent winless run. Parker experimented with different formations in the past few games, and it remains to be seen what he’ll implement against Spurs. If their recent friendly versus Lazio provides any indication, Burnley might go with a back-three this weekend.
History
Tottenham were responsible for relegating Burnley to the Championship, as they beat them 2-1 in their last league encounter in May 2024. Jacob Bruun Larsen gave the Clarets a one-goal lead in the 25th minute, but goals from Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven overturned the deficit. Overall, Tottenham have won eight of their nine Premier League home matches against Burnley (D1), only failing to take all three points in a 1-1 draw in August 2017.
The Spurs will open a Premier League season at home to a newly promoted team for the third time, with the previous two ending in 3-1 wins against Ipswich Town in 2000-01 and Aston Villa in 2019-20. The Clarets have lost their last three Premier League openers since a 3-0 result over Southampton in 2019-20.
Betting Tip
The Premier League 2025 odds expect Tottenham to give Burnley a rude welcome back to the English top-flight this weekend. The hosts are 1.33 favourites to win, whereas the Clarets are huge 7.50 underdogs, and a draw is at 4.58 in the 1X2 market.
Based on their previous encounters, this match has Premier League 2025 highlights written all over it, as both teams can score a handful of goals and aren’t exactly great defensively. With that said, bettors can also go for alternatives such as Total Goal 2-3 at 2.05, Over 2.50 at 1.70, and Over 2.75 at 1.90. Moreover, a Correct Score of 2-1 in favour of Spurs – the result of their previous league meeting – could yield a healthy payday of 7.90 your bet.
