NBA: Nuggets are Finding Ways to Win Sans Jokic

The Nuggets have been one of the feel-good stories in the NBA, as they continue to win games and remain the Western Conference’s third seed despite being without their franchise player. Since Nikola Jokic went down with a knee injury before the New Year, Denver have won five of their last eight, including only one defeat in their last five.

The David Adelman-coached squad will play the second match of their two-game road trip tomorrow, where they’ll face a handicapped Mavericks team at the American Airlines Center before opening their three-game homestand against the Wizards on Saturday night.

Speaking of the Wizards, they’ll aim to end their three-game losing skid when they visit the Clippers at Intuit Dome. On the other hand, the Raptors, Cavaliers, Jazz, Nets, and Knicks will visit the Pacers, Sixers, Bulls, Pelicans, and Kings.

Denver Nuggets @ Dallas Mavericks

Jamal Murray and Peyton Watson have stepped up for the Nuggets during their recent run of positive results, while the returns of Aaron Gordon and Christian Braun also helped. During their latest win over the Pelicans on Tuesday, Murray and Watson combined for 66 points, while Tim Hardaway Jr., Aaron Gordon, and Jalen Pickett added 18, 16, and 16 points in the 122-116 victory. Braun was absent due to a sprained ankle.

With the road win, the Nuggets improved to a 27-13 record, putting them level with the Spurs. And there’s more good news for Denver, as Nikola Jokic and Cameron Johnson would likely return to the lineup in early February, per reports.

The Mavericks ended their two-game slide with a 113-105 home win against the Nets on Monday night. Cooper Flagg continues to shine in Dallas, leading the team with 27 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals on 10-for-17 shooting. Naji Marshall, Klay Thompson, Jaden Hardy, and Max Christie added 22, 18, 14, and 10 points.

It sounds like a broken record, but the Mavericks will be without Anthony Davis (hand) for a significant period after he got hurt against the Jazz last Thursday. He’s expected to be re-evaluated by the team in approximately six weeks. Without Davis, Dallas’ defense should see a huge dropoff.

New York Knicks @ Sacramento Kings

The New York Knicks will play the Sacramento Kings next in the NBA
New York Knicks’ Jalen Brunson in action during an NBA game against the Washington Wizards on November 3, 2025

The Knicks reclaimed the second spot in the Eastern Conference, having won two of their last three following a four-game losing streak. On Sunday, the reigning NBA Cup champions secured a 123-114 victory to snap the Blazers’ five-game unbeaten run.

The starters came to play for New York, as all of them had double-digit points. Jalen Brunson had 26 points, six rebounds, and eight assists on 10-for-19 shooting, while OG Anunoby, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges, and Josh Hart added 24, 20, 18, and 18 points. Mitchell Robinson was a spark off the bench by registering six points, 11 rebounds, three steals, and three blocks in 25 minutes.

The Kings improved to 10-30 after notching back-to-back wins over the Rockets and Lakers. On Monday, Sacramento withstood Luka Doncic’s 42-point outburst through a balanced effort. DeMar DeRozan led the way with 32 points, six assists, and three steals on 14-for-19 shooting. Malik Monk, Russell Westbrook, Zach LaVine, and rookie center Maxime Raynaud added 26, 22, 19, and 11 points.

Doug Christie’s men had one of their most efficient outings of this season, going 59-per cent from the field and 65-per cent from the three-point line. However, it is difficult to envision them shooting this well against New York.

Betting tip – New York Knicks Asian Handicap -11.50 @ 2.02

Washington Wizards @ LA Clippers

The Wizards recently made headlines by acquiring Trae Young from the Hawks in exchange for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert. Young held his introductory press conference last week, but his Wizards debut will have to wait due to a quad injury.

Washington are on a three-game losing streak, following their 112-93 defeat against the Suns on Sunday. Alex Sarr and Tre Johnson had 19 points apiece in the blowout loss, while Bilal Coulibaly added 12 points.

The Clippers improved to 11th in the Western Conference after winning their last three games. In their 117-109 win over the Hornets on Monday, James Harden moved to ninth place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, surpassing Shaquille O’Neal, after dropping 32 points. Kawhi Leonard led all scorers with 35 points, five rebounds, three assists, and five three-pointers on 11-for-19 shooting.

Betting tip – LA Clippers Asian Handicap -12.00 @ 1.90
