ASEAN Women’s Championship: The Final 4 Bracket is All Set in Vietnam

Only four teams remain in the 2025 ASEAN Women’s Championship, and a new champion will be crowned. Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and Australia advanced to the semi-finals bracket after they took the top two spots in Groups A and B.

Vietnam are the only unblemished team in this tournament with three consecutive wins in Group A for nine points. Thailand finished right behind them with six points. Cambodia and Indonesia are out after recording one draw and two losses each.

Group B was a little closer, with Myanmar, Australia, and the Philippines in contention. Myanmar took the top berth with seven points, while Australia and the Philippines finished second and third with six and four points. On the other hand, Timor-Leste were dead last with three straight defeats (0 points).

With the semi-finals just around the corner, SBOTOP is here to review the games in today’s preview.

Myanmar vs Thailand

Myanmar had been knocking on the door, as they’ve been on the podium in three of the past four editions of the ASEAN Women’s Championship, with their last finals appearance being in 2015. Considering how they’ve fared so far, this year could be their best chance of finally winning the ASEAN tournament.

The Chinthe Ladies opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over Australia, as May Thet Mon Myint and Win Theingi Tun gave the team a two-goal lead before conceding a late consolation goal from Holly Furphy. And then, they followed it up with a dominant 3-0 win over Timor-Leste, with Win Theingi Tun scoring a hat-trick. Their 1-1 draw against the Philippines on the final group stage matchday was enough for them to claim the top spot while eliminating the defending champions in the process.

Against the Philippines, Vietnam took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute after Win Theingi Tun converted a penalty after Olivia McDaniel tripped her inside the box. Nina Mathelus scored the equaliser for the Philippines after linking up with fellow substitute Adelaide Wyrzynski, and Myanmar’s defence held on for the stalemate. If the Philippines won, they would’ve taken Myanmar’s spot in Group A.

Myanmar will face Thailand next. Futoshi Ikeda’s group opened their campaign with back-to-back 7-0 wins over Indonesia and Cambodia before losing 1-0 to Vietnam on the final group stage matchday.

Janista Jinantuya is their main attacking protagonist. The 21-year-old forward is second behind Win Theingi Tun in the tournament’s Golden Boot race with four goals, including a hat-trick against Cambodia.

Thailand are the winningest team in the history of this tournament with four championships, including a three-peat from 2015 to 2018. However, they’ve settled for second place in the past two editions.

Vietnam vs Australia

The ASEAN Women’s Championship 2025 odds favour Vietnam to win it all because they are the only flawless team in the tournament. And the hosts have done it with style by producing numerous ASEAN Women’s Championship 2025 highlights in their 6-0 win over Cambodia, 7-0 result over Indonesia, and 1-0 victory over Thailand in Group A. The Golden Star Women Warriors hope to tie Thailand in the ASEAN Women’s Championship count with four this time.

10 players have scored for Vietnam in this tournament, and what makes their run even more impressive is the fact that they conceded none on the other end. Pham Hai Yen is their leading scorer with three goals, while Ngan Thi Van Su and Tran Thi Thu Thao have two goals each.

Thailand almost opened the scoring in the early stages last Tuesday. Rinyaphat Moondong’s cross beat goalkeeper Trần Thị Kim Thanh, but the ball bounced off the crossbar. Tran Thi Thu Thao scored the only goal for Vietnam against Thailand, as she struck in the 36th minute. Vietnam dominated the opening exchanges of the second half, but Thailand’s backline held firm. Thailand almost had the opportunity to score a late equaliser, but Pattaranan Aupachai’s late header went over the crossbar.

Meanwhile, Australia bounced back from their 2-1 opening loss against Myanmar by registering a narrow 1-0 win over the Philippines and a 9-0 demolition job against Timor-Leste on the final day.

Holly Furphy and Alana Jancevski are the young Matildas’ top scorers with three goals each. After scoring against Myanmar and the Philippines, they had braces against Timor-Leste, and Grace Johnston, Aldeen Keane, Leticia McKenna, and Emilia Murray joined them on the scoresheet.

Australia have only won one ASEAN Women’s Championship in 2008. Interestingly, it came at the expense of Vietnam. Since then, the young Matildas have only been on the podium three times, finishing second in 2013 and 2018 and third in 2015.
