After losing the Ligue 1 crown to Lille in the 2020-21 season, PSG went on to win four consecutive French top-flight titles, and the 2024-25 season was their most dominant one in those four years. Last term, the Parisiens won the league with six matches to spare, and they ended up with a 19-point cushion over the rest of the chasing pack. PSG also won their first-ever Champions League and came close to winning the Club World Cup.
With their roster intact, PSG have been relatively quiet this offseason, while their rivals have made their moves. Despite this, the super early Ligue 1 2025 odds still back them to win the French top-flight crown again next season.
Marseille, AS Monaco, and Lille have been busy this summer, as they try to catch up with Luis Enrique’s men. Without further ado, SBOTOP is here to recap some of the latest Ligue 1 2025 updates.
Marseille strengthened their striker depth
Marseille had the second-best offence in Ligue 1 last season (74 goals), and they added more firepower by reuniting with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, signing Neal Maupay to a permanent contract, recruiting Igor Paixao, and adding Angel Gomes from Lille on a free transfer, among others. They also released Chancel Mbemba and sold Luis Henrique and Pau Lopez to Inter Milan and Real Betis, respectively.
During his first spell at the Orange Velodrome in 2023-24, Aubameyang contributed 30 goals and 11 assists in 51 matches. The Gabon international then left to join Al-Qadsiah to contribute 21 goals and three assists in 36 matches in all competitions, guiding the Saudi Pro League side to a fourth-place finish in the league and a final appearance in the King’s Cup.
Aubameyang now returns to Marseille with unfinished business, as manager Roberto De Zerbi never wanted him to leave in the first place. The 36-year-old striker will face stiff competition for minutes alongside Maupay, Paixao, Amine Gouiri, Faris Moumbagna, and Mason Greenwood.
Furthermore, Marseille also added Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Angel Gomes, and CJ Egan-Riley to bolster the midfield and backline. Egan-Riley was a key cog in Burnley’s Premier League return last season. Hojbjerg emerged as one of Marseille’s key players, and Gomes earned his first four senior caps for England last season under interim boss Lee Carsley. Gomes will be reunited with former Manchester United teammate Greenwood.
AS Monaco recruited several outcasts

AS Monaco may be a big believer in the saying, “another man’s trash is another man’s treasure”, based on the moves they’ve made this summer. Les Monegasques loaned Ansu Fati from Barcelona, signed Eric Dier on a free transfer, and recruited free agent Paul Pogba.
Fati spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Brighton, scoring four times, before returning to Barcelona, where he only made 11 appearances last season. AS Monaco have the option to buy him at the end of the season for £9.4 million.
Dier joined AS Monaco on a three-year deal after a productive two-season stint with Bayern Munich. He initially joined the Bavarian giants on loan from Tottenham in 2024 before signing a permanent deal last summer. However, after making 47 appearances for Bayern Munich, Dier turned down the chance to stay at the Allianz Arena, though he’ll leave as a Bundesliga titlist.
Pogba also joined AS Monaco, looking to revive his football career after a doping ban for testing positive for Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). His last competitive game came in September 2023 for Juventus, and his original four-year suspension was cut to 18 months after a successful appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Before signing with Adi Hutter’s side, Pogba reportedly rejected a lucrative deal from a Saudi Pro League team.
Lille replace star with evergreen veteran
After a one-year stint with LAFC, Olivier Giroud is back in the French top-flight for the first time in 13 years, and the 38-year-old striker will take his talents to Lille. Giroud struggled to make an impact in Major League Soccer, scoring just five goals in 37 games across all competitions, so he has come full circle.
Lille lost Angel Gomes and Jonathan David for nothing. But Les Dogues replaced them with younger players in Felix Correia, Nathan Ngoy, and Marius Broholm, and they’re also keen on taking 23-year-old left-back Bradley Locko from Brest, despite coming off a torn ACL.
However, Bruno Genesio’s side may also be tempted to cash in on their prodigious goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier, this summer, with PSG and Manchester United as his top suitors, and Edon Zhegrova, with Marseille knocking on his door.
