Premier League: Man United are Expected to Rid These 5 Players

Manchester United have a lot of work to do after finishing 15th in the Premier League standings this year (42 points). It is their worst finish in the English top-flight to date, and the fans are unhappy about it.

To be fair, Ruben Amorim inherited a disjointed squad when he replaced Erik ten Hag last November. Because he plays a different style of football than his predecessor, it is imperative that Amorim builds a team that can execute his tactics, with the help from the recruitment team.

First things first, the Red Devils need to get rid of some deadwood to boost their Premier League 2025 odds, and SBOTOP lists the players that are likely to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Alejandro Garnacho

Alejandro Garnacho is the first casualty of Manchester United’s extreme overhaul this summer, since he is an awkward fit for Ruben Amorim’s tactics. More importantly, the Argentine winger is no longer happy at Old Trafford after their poor Premier League 2025 results.

Garnacho had six league goals and two assists this season, but he has been criticized for his immaturity and decision-making. He was supposed to go elsewhere during the winter transfer window, but he was given a second chance. Because it hasn’t worked out, Garnacho is likely going to be sold.

Manchester United have reportedly set a price of at least £70 million for Garnacho, who will turn 21 next month. Aston Villa, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Napoli, and Bayer Leverkusen are monitoring his situation.

Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford could be the second one to go for the same reason as Garnacho’s, although his impending exit may not be as acrimonious because he has served the club for so long. After spending the first decade of his career at Old Trafford, the 27-year-old winger is searching for a new challenge.

Rashford was loaned to Aston Villa last January, but it ultimately didn’t work out. After a bright start at Villa Park, Rashford was dogged by injuries and only finished with two goals and four assists across 14 matches in all competitions.

Rashford’s agents reportedly want the Englishman to transfer to Barcelona. However, the La Liga champions are weighing their options, with Luis Diaz and Rafael Leao floated as potential future signings.

Jadon Sancho

Jadon Sancho was supposed to secure a permanent move away at Old Trafford, but Chelsea reneged on their loan deal with Manchester United. The Blues were more than willing to pay the £5 million penalty to make sure that they wouldn’t keep Sancho permanently.

Sancho made 41 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions, notching five goals and 10 assists. The 25-year-old scored the third goal in Chelsea’s 4-1 win over Real Betis in the Europa Conference League final, the first trophy under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital’s ownership.

Since his well-documented row with then-boss Erik ten Hag, Sancho has cut an unhappy figure at Old Trafford. Ruben Amorim must cut him loose because he cannot afford to have any toxicity in the locker room in his ongoing rebuild.

Antony

Antony could be better off leaving Manchester United since he went off in his loan stint at Real Betis. The Brazilian winger suddenly looked rejuvenated when he joined Los Verdiblancos last January and went on to produce five La Liga goals and two assists in 17 Spanish top-flight appearances. Antony was also a major reason Real Betis reached the Europa Conference League final.

As it turns out, Erik ten Hag reportedly did not want Antony despite having worked together at Ajax. Manchester United panicked when Arsenal showed interest and signed Antony to a whopping £86 million last August 2022. Many fans consider the 25-year-old a flop because he only produced 12 goals and five assists in 96 appearances.

Real Betis are pushing to sign Antony this summer. Local reports claim that Manuel Pellegrini’s side plans another loan, this time with a £35 million buy option, marking a potential £51 million loss for Manchester United.

Andre Onana

Andre Onana could be on his way out of Manchester United if recent reports are to be believed. The Red Devils’ front office is reportedly looking for a new first-choice goalkeeper, with Emiliano Martinez, Lucas Chevalier, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen floated as potential replacements.

Martinez, a two-time recipient of the Yashin Trophy, will be a free agent next month after not signing an extension with Aston Villa. Ter Stegen will likely leave Barcelona because the Blaugrana have prioritized signing Joan Garcia from Espanyol and renewed Wojciech Szczesny’s contract. Meanwhile, Manchester United could acquire Chevalier by paying Lille at least £59 million.
