Premier League: Red Devils Go for the Jugular Against the Fatigued Spurs

Tottenham are dealing with an injury crisis

Thomas Frank made a bright start at Tottenham, as they’re in the thick of the European football race. However, their recent defeat to Chelsea brought an eruption of boos from home fans, and Frank’s own players appeared to snub him on the pitch. Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence ignored Frank as they were walking back to the tunnel, though Frank downplayed the incident.

To their credit, Spurs bounced back with a 4-0 win over Copenhagen, as Brennan Johnson, Wilson Odobert, Micky van de Ven, and Joao Palhinha scored, though Johnson was sent off before the hour mark. They will hope to keep the momentum going when they host the Red Devils, but they’ll have to do it without a handful of key players.

James Maddison (knee), Dejan Kulusevski (knee), Dominic Solanke (foot), Ben Davies (thigh), Radu Dragusin (knee), Yves Bissouma (ankle), Archie Gray (calf), Kota Takai (thigh), and Lucas Bergvall (head) are all expected to be out. Meanwhile, Mohammed Kudus recently suffered a knock, but there’s a good chance that the 25-year-old playmaker will be available for selection.

Frank doesn’t have the luxury to rotate his players. Besides beating Manchester United, Tottenham are hoping to come out of the game in one piece.

 

Casemiro’s revival has been key for Manchester United

The Red Devils’ upturn in form has been largely attributed to their attackers, namely Bryan Mbeumo, who was named the Premier League Player of the Month for October 2025. However, the one man Tottenham has to look out for is Casemiro, who has become the heart of Manchester United’s midfield this year.

Casemiro is not as mobile as he used to be. However, the 33-year-old makes up for it with his positioning and smart reading of the game. The Brazilian enforcer provides another layer of protection at the back and has scored several times through set pieces.

With Casemiro on the pitch, Manchester United have conceded a goal once every 110.6 minutes, but without him, that number drops significantly to 31.54 minutes.

Tottenham and Manchester United have faced off four times last season. Under former manager Ange Postecoglou, the Spurs completed a league double over the Red Devils (4-0 aggregate tally). They also eliminated Ruben Amorim’s side in the EFL Cup quarter-finals (4-3) and won 1-0 in the Europa League final, the team’s first major trophy since the 2007-08 EFL Cup.

Overall, Manchester United are winless in their last seven matches against Tottenham (D2, L5). Their last win against the Spurs was a 2-0 result in October 2022.

Thomas Frank was linked to the Manchester United job after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, but INEOS ultimately went with Ruben Amorim for the role. Both managers have only faced each other one time in their careers, when Manchester United lost 4-3 to Brentford on the road in the Premier League last season.
