Serie A: The Biggest Winners of the 2025 Summer Transfer Window

Compared to the past few windows, Serie A teams have been more productive this summer, as they plan to achieve their objectives this term, whether it’s competing for the Scudetto, securing a European football berth, or improving their place from last year.

Juventus, AC Milan, AS Roma, and defending champions Napoli are among the calcios that retooled this summer. On the other hand, the same can’t be said for Atalanta, Inter Milan, and Lazio, whose Serie A 2025 odds of competing for the Scudetto have slightly declined.

Without further ado, let’s examine why the four aforementioned teams fared well this summer compared to the others here in today’s SBOTOP recap.

Juventus

After barely making it to the Top 4 last season, Juventus are in better shape to compete for the Scudetto this year because of the drastic moves they made this summer. They appointed Igor Tudor to replace Thiago Motta as their head coach before letting go of a raft of players to fund their rebuild.

First, they made Michele Di Gregorio’s deal permanent after a successful loan stint between the sticks last season. Then, they signed Lloyd Kelly, Francisco Conceicao, Joao Mario, and Jonathan David for €62 million combined. And before the deadline passed, they added two more standouts in Edon Zhegrova for a €15.5 million transfer fee and Lois Openda via loan.

Juventus wanted to bring back Randal Kolo Muani after the Frenchman balled out for them last term, but they couldn’t agree on terms with PSG. But they kept Dusan Vlahovic, who has already scored two league goals this season, to put the Bianconeri at the top of the Serie A standings alongside Napoli with two consecutive wins against Parma and Genoa.

Napoli

Napoli are poised to win the Serie A championship again, as their roster looks stronger this season following a busy summer transfer window. After unloading a lot of their deadwood players, they used the funds to fortify their depth from all positions.

Their defence improved with the acquisitions of goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, centre-back Sam Beukema, and full-back Miguel Gutierrez. The Partenopei also brought back Eljif Elmas via loan (with RB Leipzig) and signed Noa Lang from PSV Eindhoven. They added to their Manchester contingent with the free transfer of Kevin De Bruyne and the loan of Rasmus Hojlund.

De Bruyne and Scott McTominay produced Serie A 2025 highlights in their 2-0 opening day win against Sassuolo, as the latter reminded everyone of his league MVP credentials. Hojlund can use his time in Naples to regain his confidence after a lacklustre stint at Manchester United, and he can do it by seizing the No. 9 void left by the injured Romelu Lukaku because Lorenzo Lucca has only been serviceable at best.

AC Milan

AC Milan are determined to return to European football after missing out on a spot last season with their eighth-place finish. The Rossoneri appointed Max Allegri to become their new manager, and they’ve made numerous roster moves this summer.

The Rossoneri took a page out of Napoli’s playbook by acquiring a veteran midfielder in Luka Modric via a free transfer. They also added Samuele Ricci, Ardon Jashari, and Adrien Rabiot to reinforce their midfield. AC Milan also acquired Pervis Estupinan from Brighton, Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea, Koni De Winter from Genoa, and David Odogu from VfL Wolfsburg. Meanwhile, some of their key departures include Samuel Chukwueze, Yunus Musah, Noah Okafor, Malick Thiaw, Theo Hernandez, Alvaro Morata, Luka Jovic, Warren Bondo, Pierre Kalulu, Tijjani Reijnders, and Davide Calabria.

They got off to a bad start against Cremonese, as their old problems haunted them in their 2-1 loss to the newly promoted side on opening day. However, AC Milan bounced back with a 2-0 win against Lecce to improve to eighth in the Italian top-flight standings.

AS Roma

AS Roma had an underrated transfer window this summer. First, they hired Gian Piero Gasperini as their new head coach, and the front office backed him with some shrewd transfers, despite working on a smaller budget compared to the other calcios on this list.

Some of their notable signings include Manu Kone, Evan Ferguson, Wesley Franca, Leon Bailey, and Kostas Tsimikas. Kone, Ferguson, and Franca are already regular starters for the Giallorossi, and Franca has already opened his account in their 1-0 victory against Bologna during the opening matchday.

AS Roma’s summer would’ve been better if they had managed to acquire Santiago Gimenez from AC Milan. Gimenez was in talks to join the Giallorossi on loan. However, the deal was called off, as Gimenez ultimately decided to stay.
