Germany vs Denmark
Germany face Denmark in a tasty Women’s Euro 2025 Group C clash at St Jacob Park in Basel on Tuesday, when a win could well see Christian Wuck’s team through to the knockout phase.
The Germans beat newcomers Poland 2-0 in their opener while Denmark fell to a 1-0 defeat to neighbours Sweden, and the Danes’ head coach Andree Jeglertz knows his team has a steep hill to climb now if they are to progress any further.
At third in the Women’s FIFA World Rankings, Germany are a handy nine places above Denmark and the Women’s Euros 2025 betting odds say that will be enough to top Group C, and Tuesday’s match against their Scandinavian neighbours will go some way to telling us how serious they are as title contenders.
Talking Points
Dominant start by Wuck’s Germany
Alongside the likes of France and England, not to mention the World Champions Spain, Germany are one of the teams with the main prize in their sights; and they could hardly have started better against another neighbour, Poland, as second half goals from Jule Brand and Lea Schuller saw off the Poles with some ease. Without the injured Lena Oberdorf in their ranks the Germans still controlled much of the game, dominating possession and cutting through the Polish defence when the opportunity arose.
Wuck is an experienced coach in the international world, leading the Germany U17 team between 2019 and 2024 and his switch to the women’s game could turn out to be a smart move for both parties. And the way his team knocked the ball about against Poland was a joy to watch at times as they had 75 per cent possession; and they could have been two up through Brand and captain Giulia Gwinn before they broke the deadlock, but all credit to the Poles who defended stoutly. There was a worrying moment for Germany when Gwinn limped off after a challenge with Ewa Pajor and she looked distressed as she reached the touchline; Wuck will wait to see if she is fit to play on Tuesday.
But on a brighter note the form of Schuller has been superb since she took over from retired Alexandra Popp at centre forward and, with one goal already in the bag, Schuller is a decent bet for the Golden Boot.
Denmark are down but not out
After losing their opener against their Scandi rivals, Sweden, the Danes now need a spectacular upturn in Women’s Euros 2025 results, starting against Germany on Tuesday. They were thumped 6-1 by Sweden in their last Nations League game and were much stronger this time around, unlucky not to end up with a share of the spoils. After a tight and goalless first half the Swedes broke the deadlock when Filippa Angeldahl struck early in the second half. But captain Pernille Harder almost levelled for Denmark, but she saw her late effort crash against the crossbar.

This was a poor result for Jeglertz’ team but it was a big improvement on their last meeting with Sweden, when they were 3-0 down after just 11 minutes and the boss was pleased with the spirit of her girls, saying: “With 15-20 minutes left there was huge belief. We still felt we had energy and we got forward well. Overall though, we got too defensive too early. We played better in the second half.”
Denmark will have to positive now and Harder, alongside Real Madrid striker, Signe Bruun, who scored 12 goals and made seven assists for her club this term, will test the German rearguard.
History
Germany were runners up at the 2022 Women’s Euros though they suffered a shock exit at the group stage at the World Cup in Australia in 2023. But they are unbeaten in 2025 and are strong favourites to win their group this time around.
Denmark failed to get out of their group at Euro 2022, but they made it to the Round of 16 at the World Cup, only to be beaten by the hosts.
With four wins each in all competitions since 2007 these two teams have been well matched in the past, but current form favours Germany, who have won their last six games while Denmark have won three and lost three.
Betting Tip
The Germans are hot favourites at SBOTOP odds of 1.28 to win this clash with the draw at 4.57 and a Denmark win is at 5.89. While the Danes do have quality up front the Germans have more strength in depth and the most likely score line is 2-0 to Germany, at a price of 7.04.
