England vs Wales
Reigning champions England are back in action on Sunday with one more job to do to reach the knockouts as the Women’s Euro 2025 match between England and Wales takes centre stage at the Kybunpark in St. Gallen.
The 20,000-capacity stadium will be bouncing, as the UK neighbours come face-to-face, and Sarina Wiegman’s side are overwhelming favourites to see off the newcomers from Wales. But after putting up a brave fight against France last time out, Rhian Wilkinson’s team will be right up for this clash and ready to do all they can to cause an upset.
After losing their opener to France, Sarina Wiegman’s first Euros defeat of her coaching career, the Lionesses were back to their best as they hammered the Netherlands 4-0 on Wednesday, and that result puts their destiny in their own hands. England are second in Group D, three points behind France, three ahead of Wales and above the Netherlands on goal difference.
The latest Women’s Euro 2025 betting odds say Wiegman’s team will finish their group games with a win and head off to the knockout phase. But is there any chance that Wilkinson’s girls can wreck their nearest neighbours’ party?
Talking Points
Russo stars for England
Wales have a huge challenge ahead of them to beat a side with quality running through its team, inspired by FWA Women’s Player of the Year, Alessio Russo. The Arsenal forward has been the Lionesses’ standout player so far and, with 23 goals in 53 appearances for England, she is surely set to add to her tally against Wales on Sunday, having already had two goals disallowed during the first two games.
Following a disappointment in their opener against France, England’s clash with the Netherlands was a must-win game. And the Lionesses certainly delivered, as Lauren James, with two goals, Georgia Stanway and Ella Toone adding one goal each, which were supplied by the selfless Russo, who provided three assists.
The 26-year-old striker will test the Wales defence to the full, as the Lionesses go for the win they need to progress. But Wiegman’s team need to be ruthless as they know a defeat or even a draw may well let the Netherlands in.
Wales’ chances are hanging by a thread

The Dragons’ need to beat England by four goals, and then hope France beat the Netherlands if they are to defy all expectations and make it out of Group D. But they won’t give up any time soon, particularly as they have a chance to scupper England’s hopes.
After a chastening 3-0 loss to the Netherlands, a clash with Les Bleues was hardly the date Wales would have picked, but they put up a brave defence against one of the best teams on the planet before France eventually cut through.
After Clara Mateo had given Les Bleues an early lead, Jess Fishlock scored Wales’ first ever tournament finals goal to level, and they came within a whisker of parity at halftime. But the Dragons conceded a penalty to hand Les Bleues a lead.
Two more goals from France clicked through the gears, which dealt Wales another three-goal defeat. But France had earlier beaten England in some comfort, so Wales will not go into this clash disheartened.
In other Women’s Euro 2025 news from the underdogs’ camp, Wilkinson may shuffle her pack again with Sunderland defender Rhiannon Roberts and Leicester City keeper Olivia Clark both pushing for a return.
History
As well as winning the tournament in 2022, the Lionesses have made it through the group stage in three of the last four Euros, with their last slip-up coming back in 2013.
Meanwhile, this is Wales’ first foray at a major tournament. The two nations have met four times in the past, with the Lionesses winning three, and there has been one draw.
But England have struggled a little for consistency in 2025 with three wins from their last six games, though Wales have suffered five defeats in their last six games.
Take a look at the fixtures Wales have faced and you can see why they have laboured. As well as facing the Netherlands and France in Switzerland, the Dragons have also encountered Italy, Denmark, and Sweden, drawing with the highly-rated Swedes.
Betting Tip
At SBOTOP odds of 1.06 to win this match, the Lionesses are red-hot favourites to get the victory they need, with the draw at 11.50 and a Wales win at 23.50.
It looks like a David vs. Goliath affair, and the Welsh won’t lie down easily, but I can see plenty of goals.
