Germany vs Spain
Spain and Germany are vying for a place in the Women’s Euro 2025 final when they convene in a semi-finals matchup at Letzigrund this Wednesday evening. The winner of this tie will face the winner of the England-Italy contest later.
La Roja had the most straightforward outing in the quarter-finals, as they beat Switzerland 2-0 last weekend. Athenea del Castillo and Claudia Pina found the back of the net for Montserrat Tome’s side, and Switzerland were reduced to 10 women during stoppage time after Noelle Maritz received a straight red card.
Meanwhile, the Frauenteam beat France in the penalty shootout after a 1-1 stalemate in regulation. Christian Wuck’s side exhibited grit and determination against France, as they never gave up after they were reduced to 10 women, following Kathrin Hendrich’s 13th-minute sent-off.

Talking Points
Berger saves Germany, literally

Germany are through to the Women’s Euro 2025 semi-finals due to the heroics of Sjoeke Nusken and Ann-Katrin Berger. Nusken scored the much-needed equaliser after Grace Geyoro converted her penalty 12 minutes earlier, when Kathrin Hendrich was sent off for pulling Greidge Mbock’s hair. If it weren’t for Pauline Peyraud-Magnin’s save of Nusken’s penalty in the second half, Germany would’ve sealed the deal earlier than they should.
Peyraud-Magnin’s opposite number, Berger, ultimately proved to be Germany’s quarter-final hero. She pulled off a stunning save in extra time to send the match to the penalty shootout, and the Gotham FC goalie saved two more penalties and scored one to keep her country alive.
Before she was in this position, Berger was in her hospital bed, battling thyroid cancer. The 34-year-old overcame the sickness twice and fought her way back after being overlooked for a starting spot at the Frauenteam for years.
Germany will miss Sarai Linder, who joins captain Giulia Gwinn on the sidelines after sustaining an ankle injury last Saturday. Meanwhile, Hendrich is suspended, but Carlotta Wamser will return to the side after serving a one-match ban.
Spain are just too loaded
Spain emerged as the favourites to win this tournament because they have two Ballon d’Or Feminin players on their roster in Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmati. However, it is Esther Gonzalez who has stolen the spotlight with her goalscoring exploits.
Gonzalez is the frontrunner for the tournament’s Golden Boot with four goals. She set the tone by scoring a brace in Spain’s 5-0 rout of Portugal before scoring one goal each against Belgium (6-2) and Italy (3-1).
La Roja had to be patient against Switzerland after Mariona Caldentey saw her early penalty saved. But Athenea del Castillo and Claudia Pina scored the marginal goals in the second half with the help of Bonmati.
Spain will miss the services of Laia Aleixandri against Germany after she picked up her second yellow card last weekend. Jana Fernandez or Maria Mendez will likely replace the 24-year-old centre-back.
History
Thursday marks only the eighth meeting (in all competitions) between Spain and Germany. The Frauenteam are undefeated in their last seven matches against Spain, with four wins and three draws. These two nations last met in the 2024 Paris Games, where Germany won 1-0 against Spain in the bronze medal match.
Despite being winless against Germany thus far, Spain come into this last-four tie in fine form, as La Roja won 12 of their previous 13 internationals, scoring at least three goals in 10 of those wins.
As mentioned before, Germany are the winningest nation in this competition with eight championships, including a six-peat from 1995 to 2013.
Before this week, Spain have only reached the Women’s Euros semi-finals once in 1997, where they lost 2-1 to Italy.
Betting Tip
The Women’s Euro 2025 odds expect Spain to book their final tickets at the expense of Germany. Montserrat Tome’s women are 1.48 favourites to win, whereas Christian Wuck’s group are 4.74 underdogs, and a draw after 90 minutes is at 3.87 in the 1X2 market. Germany proved in the quarter-final that they can beat a team like Spain. However, fatigue may be a problem for the Frauenteam after it took them over 100 minutes to dispatch France.
Besides our recommended bet, we expect new Women’s Euro 2025 highlights from these two sides, making alternatives like Over 2.75 at 1.64 and Total Goal 2-3 at 2.02 worth considering. Furthermore, a Correct Score of 1-0 in favour of Germany – the result of their most recent encounter – could yield a handsome payday of 17.00 your bet.
