Women’s Euro 2025: Sweden and Germany Clash for Group C Top Spot

Sweden vs Germany

Sweden and Germany have already secured their spots in the Women’s Euro 2025 knockout phase after winning their opening two matches, but only one of them can take the top spot in Group C. These two proud sides will convene at Letzigrund this Saturday evening.

The hosts qualified for the next round after winning 1-0 against Denmark and 3-0 against Poland. Peter Gerhardsson’s Blågult are determined to produce another resolute display in front of their home crowd to beat Germany and, hypothetically, get an easier matchup in the knockouts.

On the other hand, Germany are coming off a 2-0 win against Poland and a 2-1 win against Denmark. The Frauenteam have officially progressed from every European Championship group stage they have competed in.

Which team will come out on top this weekend? Learn more about these two juggernauts by reading today’s SBOTOP preview.

Talking Points

Rolfo’s return is a shot in the arm for Sweden

Sweden are through to the knockouts with style, as they have never conceded a goal so far in the Women’s Euro 2025. Peter Gerhardsson’s side has now recorded shutout wins in four of their previous five internationals, while they’ve only conceded two goals or more in just one of their last 14 matches.

Filippa Angeldahl scored the matchwinner against Denmark last Saturday before Stina Blackstenius, Kosovare Asilani, and Lina Hurtig joined on the scoresheet by finding the back of the net in their 3-0 victory over Poland last Tuesday. Sweden sit at the top of Group C with a slender goal difference advantage over Germany.

It’s only going to get better for them, as Fridolina Rolfo could be in line for more playing time against Germany after coming off the bench against Poland. The former Barcelona forward, who can also play as a full-back, has 22 international goals and 98 caps, and her return from an ankle injury should give Sweden a boost.

Meanwhile, Linda Sembrant and Jonna Andersson are in contention for recalls after dropping out against Poland, while Hanna Bennison could draw a start if Gerhardsson plans to rotate his midfield.

Schuller living up to the hype for Germany

Lea Schuller is proving to be one of Germany’s key players at Women’s Euro 2025, with two goals to her name
Germany forward Lea Schuller celebrates after scoring her side’s second goal in the Women’s Euro 2025 Group C clash against Denmark

Lea Schuller is on top of Sweden’s scouting report, as she is one of the tournament’s leading scorers with two goals. The Bayern Munich striker scored once against Poland and the marginal goal against Denmark last Tuesday. She now has five goals in her past four appearances.

Germany are fresh from a nervy 2-1 victory over Denmark, as they trailed by one goal and two key VAR decisions went against them. However, their persistence paid off, as Sjoeke Nusken converted a penalty near the hour mark, and Schuller put the final nail in the coffin in the 66th minute.

The Frauenteam must continue to do without their captain Giulia Gwinn, who sustained a tournament-ending knee injury against Poland. Carlotta Wamser should keep her place in the back four alongside Janina Minge, Rebecca Knaak, and Sarai Linder.

History

Germany have won three of their last four meetings against Sweden across all competitions, including a goalless draw in the most recent one in February 2023 during an international friendly. Overall, these two teams have faced off 16 times, with the Frauenteam winning 11 and the Blågult winning three, along with two draws.

As mentioned before, Germany are the winningest side in the Women’s Euros with eight championships, including a six-peat from 1995 to 2013. In Women’s Euro 2022, they lost 2-1 to England in the final.

Meanwhile, Sweden won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 1984 and finished second in 1987, 1995, and 2001. In Women’s Euro 2022, they were knocked out by England in the semi-finals with a score of 4-0. Otherwise, they would have met Germany in the final for the third time.

Betting Tip

The Women’s Euro 2025 odds expect a close-fought battle between Sweden and Germany this Saturday evening. Despite being at home, Sweden are the slight underdogs against Germany, priced at 2.89 odds compared to the Frauenteam’s 2.12, and a draw is at 3.08 in the 1X2 market.

Both teams should give the fans in Zurich a healthy dose of Women’s Euro 2025 highlights, with Germany likely to score the winning goal. Besides our recommended bet, bettors can also go for alternatives like Over 2.25 at 1.67, Over 2.50 at 1.91, and Total Goal 2-3 at 1.92. Meanwhile, a Correct Score of 0-0 – the result of their most recent encounter – could yield a robust payday of 10.00 your bet.
