Carlos Alcaraz is poised to defend his Wimbledon crown for the second straight year successfully. The young Spaniard just became the second active man to reach at least three semi-finals at Wimbledon, and the Wimbledon 2025 odds fancy his chances to win it all.
However, he’ll have to earn his third Wimbledon trophy the hard way, as some of his Top 10 colleagues are still alive. Jannik Sinner and Ben Shelton will face off in the quarter-finals, and the winner of this tie will meet the winner between Novak Djokovic and Flavio Cobolli. Cobolli is the only player left from outside the Top 10 and is looking to bring his A-game against his childhood idol in a rematch of last year’s Shanghai Masters Round of 32 contest.
As we go deeper into the Grand Slam, let’s recap the latest Wimbledon 2025 highlights, courtesy of SBOTOP.
Alcaraz is not taking anything for granted
Carlos Alcaraz moved one step closer to a third consecutive Wimbledon title following his 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 triumph over home favourite Cameron Norrie last Tuesday. The defending SW19 champion only needed one hour and 39 minutes to secure the win, and he joins Novak Djokovic as the second active player to advance to three or more Wimbledon semis. Having won the French Open last month, Alcaraz can join Bjorn Borg as the only men in the Open Era to achieve the rare Roland Garros-Wimbledon double in consecutive years.
Alcaraz was efficient and clinical against Norrie, particularly on his first serve. He won 89-per cent (50/56) of first-serve points while firing 12 aces. Alcaraz saved all five of the break points he faced and won 14 of 16 points when he charged to the net as Norrie tried to attack him from the baseline.
He is set for a semi-final encounter with Taylor Fritz, who made it this far for the first time in his career. The world No. 5 is fresh from a 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(4) win against Karen Khachanov in a match that lasted two hours and 36 minutes.
Sinner gets a lucky break

Jannik Sinner’s road to reaching the Wimbledon quarter-finals was a smoother one compared to his Top 5 colleagues, as he has never dropped a set in his first three matches. And the young Italian is coming off a walkover win over Grigor Dimitrov, as the latter had to retire after sustaining a partially torn pectoral muscle.
Dimitrov appeared to be on the verge of upsetting Sinner, as he held a 6-3, 7-5, 2-2 advantage, but he hurt himself while serving. The 34-year-old Bulgarian international fell to the ground in pain and received treatment during a medical timeout. Moments later, Dimitrov returned to the court to shake Sinner’s hand, confirming he could not continue to play. According to reports, Dimitrov is expected to be out for at least three tournaments, with his earliest return scheduled for the US Open in late August.
Sinner also had a lengthy medical timeout during the contest, as he landed awkwardly on his right arm during the second set when he trailed 0-2. He was limited in practise as he awaits his MRI results ahead of his clash against Ben Shelton, with whom he has a 5-1 head-to-head record.
Based on what his trainers have been saying, Sinner should be good to go against Shelton. His path to the title will likely run through Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals and Carlos Alcaraz in Sunday’s final, though he’ll remain the top-ranked ATP player regardless of who wins Wimbledon.
Djokovic closing in on another SW19 milestone
After notching his 100th career Wimbledon win over Miomir Kecmanovic in the third round last Sunday, Novak Djokovic followed it up with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory against Alex de Minaur to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the 16th time. The 38-year-old Serbian international is now only five wins away from surpassing Roger Federer (105) for most Wimbledon victories.
Alex de Minaur rolled through the opening set against Djokovic but failed to convert break point opportunities when he trailed 4-5 in the second set. Djokovic grew into the match and even rallied from a 1-4 deficit in the fourth set to advance after three hours and 18 minutes. Djokovic will face Flavio Cobolli, who is coming off a 6-4, 6-4, 6-7(4), 7-6(3) result over Marin Cilic to reach his first major quarter-final. Cobolli will play with a huge chip on his shoulder because of what he had been through to make it this far, which includes getting kicked out of his house while in the middle of competing for the Grand Slam.
